Q. Do you have a blog or some other online method of
contacting your readers?
A. Yes! In early 2008 I joined a group of fellow Blaze
authors at the established
SIZZLING PENS Blog. I’ll be posting a blog every other
Friday - so please stop by to read and comment if you get the
chance!
Q. How long have you been writing?
A. 6 years.
Q. Why do you write romance?
A. It just doesn’t get any better than being able to
redeem a sexy bad boy or bring a hunky alpha male to his knees,
even if only in my imagination and do it in my jammies. I love
romance and truly believe love can heal a heart and redeem the
soul.
Q. How long does it take you to write a book?
A. My first book took 10 months to write and another 2
years to revise. My second book took 14 months with time off to
revise my first book for my editor. I finished my third book in
6 months. I’ve learned a lot about plotting and writing since
that first book when I still had a toddler at home. But now that
the last little one is in school all day, I’m able to write full
time and hopefully produce a book much faster.
Q. Why did you decide to become a writer?
A. I’d been reading romance for years and eventually a
story started forming in my mind and I just had to write it.
Q. How many books had you written – or started – before
selling HSP?
A. Um… HSP was the first book I
wrote. I had about half of another book finished when I sold.
Q. What’s your favorite time of day to write?
A. I tend to be a night owl, and sometimes will stay up
late to write, but I try to write on a day schedule from 9 am –
3 pm when the kids are in school and the house is quiet.
Q. How do you research for your books?
A. Well, besides a wonderful CP whose DH is a cop… I use
the web a lot, but I’m also on a couple of great writer’s loops
and have also been known to call someone up cold turkey (like
the guy at the liquor store when I needed to describe a certain
type of champagne or the wonderfully helpful Forensic
Pathologist at the Dallas Crime Lab) or send an email—like this
really great horse trainer in Canada.
Q. What do you enjoy most about writing?
A. Creating characters and stories that convey the
message of hope and love. Recently a reader said she fell in
love with my hero, Mark Malone and that was more satisfying to
me than the 4 ½ star review from RT!
Q. Who are some of your favorite authors?
A. Gayle Wilson, Jayne Anne Krentz, Mary Balogh, Laura
Kinsale, Judith Ivory, Mary Jo Putney, and Deborah Simmons.
Q. What do you like least about writing?
A. A blank page!
Q. How/where do you come up with story ideas?
A. Everywhere! Magazines, newspapers, someone I observe
at the mall or grocery store… You never know.
Q. Which comes first: the characters or the plot?
A. Hmmm… That’s a hard one for me. I guess I’d have to
say plot. I’ve learned I tend to be plot driven. But I have had
a couple of really strong characters that came on the page and
took over.
Q. Do you always plan to write series romances or do you
plan on making the move to single title one day?
A. I’d be perfectly happy writing series romance the rest
of my days. I tend to write short. But I think I’ll take this
writing career thing one day at a time!
